Position Summary:



We are looking for a highly skilled

Ortho Registered Dental Hygienist

to join our dynamic team at One Dental. As a key member of our team, you will provide excellent dental hygiene services to our patients, specializing in orthodontic care. You will be responsible for performing routine cleanings, assisting with orthodontic procedures, and educating patients on proper oral care techniques to ensure their oral health is maintained during orthodontic treatment. You will work in close collaboration with the orthodontist and other dental professionals to provide comprehensive care.

Key Responsibilities:



Orthodontic Hygiene Services:



Clean and polish teeth of orthodontic patients, ensuring they maintain healthy teeth and gums during their orthodontic treatment. Apply fluoride treatments, sealants, and other preventive treatments. Assist in the application and removal of orthodontic appliances, including braces, retainers, and aligners. Perform scaling and root planing, as required, on orthodontic patients to prevent gum disease. Take digital x-rays and assist with diagnostic imaging.

Patient Care and Education:



Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and orthodontic care, including brushing, flossing, and using specialized tools like floss threaders or interdental brushes. Provide individualized oral hygiene instructions to patients with braces or other orthodontic appliances. Demonstrate proper use of orthodontic tools, such as rubber bands, spacers, and retainers, to improve patient compliance with treatment plans.

Collaboration with Orthodontists:



Work closely with the orthodontist to track patient progress, identify potential issues with the treatment, and adjust care plans as necessary. Assist orthodontists in procedures such as fitting and adjusting braces and providing pre- and post-treatment care instructions to patients.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:



Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including medical history, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with privacy laws and regulations. Document and update treatment progress, patient interactions, and any changes in treatment or care plans.

Sterilization and Infection Control:



Follow strict infection control protocols as per the Ontario Public Health Standards and clinic policies. Ensure that all dental instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and maintained. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to Occupational Health and Safety standards.

Administrative Support:



Assist with scheduling patient appointments and managing patient flow to ensure timely care. Provide patients with post-procedure care instructions and ensure they have a clear understanding of follow-up appointments and necessary next steps.

Professional Development:



Participate in ongoing professional development to keep up to date with advancements in orthodontic care and dental hygiene. Attend continuing education programs, workshops, and conferences as required to maintain licensure and certifications.

Qualifications:



Education:



Graduation from an accredited Dental Hygiene program. Valid registration as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO).

Experience:



3 years of experience as a Dental Hygienist, with specific experience in orthodontics considered an asset. Experience with various orthodontic appliances, such as braces, retainers, and aligners are required.

Skills:



Strong understanding of orthodontic procedures and appliances. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex procedures to patients in an understandable way. Ability to work effectively as part of an orthodontic team, collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail in documentation and patient care. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize patient care effectively.

Working Conditions:



Hours:

weekdays, evenings and/or weekend shifts may be required based on patient demand.

Environment:



Work is performed in a clean, safe, and modern dental office equipped with the latest technology for orthodontic treatments. The position may require standing for long periods and assisting patients in a clinical setting.

Wages and Benefits:



$50 - $55 hourly. Paid vacation and statutory holidays as per the Employment Standards Act (ESA). Continuing education opportunities and professional development support. Positive and supportive work environment
