Purpose of Position:



To provide community and school based dental screenings and manage cases in need of emergency or essential oral health services for children in accordance with Ontario Public Health Standards. To support awareness, access, and utilization of publicly funded programs, notably Healthy Smiles Ontario. To provide clinical preventive services including oral hygiene instruction and oral health presentations. Documentation of clinical findings and client notes using electronic dental software (Ontario Health Information Support System).

Position is subject to a 13-week summer layoff with dates to be determined.

Responsibilities:



Oral health assessment including taking digital radiographs as prescribed. Maintain client records in accordance with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario record keeping guidelines using electronic dental software. Provide direct provision of appropriate preventive services such as debridement, topical fluoride application. Provide oral health promotion and Healthy Smiles program promotion to clients. Provide Infection Prevention and Control Standards. Frequent travel to schools and daycares to conduct oral health screenings. Contribute to team and agency effectiveness.

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities:



Proven assessment, judgment, clinical and case management skills relating to dental health of individuals at high risk of dental disease; Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; Proficient organization and planning skills; Comprehensive knowledge of infection prevention and control standards; Demonstrated research skills, including the collection, analysis and presentation of data; Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle or the ability to travel in a timely and efficient manner to locations within and outside the health unit district; Able to work independently within established parameters and to function effectively as a member of a team.

Education:



Community College Diploma in Dental Hygiene Must be a Registered Dental Hygienist in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, with self-initiation status.

Related Experience:



1 - 3 year's relevant and current experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications which are considered assets in this competition:



Previous experience working with Oral Health Information Support Systems (OHISS) and other electronic dental record management systems; 3-5 years clinic dental experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist; Completion of current infection prevention and control courses; and Previous experience with children on publicly funded dental programs.
