Are you a registered Dental Hygienist seeking a new opportunity where you get to travel within Central Alberta, supporting the AHS Public Health team? If so, this may be the opportunity for you! As a registered Dental Hygienist with the Public Health team within Central Zone, supporting (Wainright) and surrounding areas, you will implement the provincial AHS Oral Health Action Plan by addressing risk factors for oral health. Your responsibilities will include oral health assessments, delivering the fluoride varnish and sealant program students in targeted schools; fluoride varnish to preschool children of families with socioeconomic risk factors; and oral health education for parents, and health professionals. You will work collaboratively with other AHS Public Health staff, community dentists, community agencies, and schools, integrate principles of health promotion, community development and capacity building. This position also supports the Dental Outreach of Red Deer, a collaboration between AHS and volunteer Dentists and Dental Assistants in the Red Deer area to provide free Dental Treatment to eligible children. This position requires moving heavy equipment and navigating awkward positions. You will be required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. This position is on a compressed work schedule working 3 days a week September to June with 8 weeks off between July and August.
Description:
As a Dental Assistant, you will receive and prepare patients for treatment. You will prepare instruments and materials required, perform intra-oral procedures and chair-side assistance during dental procedures. You will maintain cleanliness of the dental area and perform routine maintenance. You will also provide oral health treatment and education to patients. You may perform billing and pre-authorization of insurance claims and participate in the development of educational resource materials. You will maintain dental charts, records and databases.
