Your Opportunity:
The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) at the Arthur Child Dental Clinic assists dentists with the most medically complex patients that cannot be treated in the community. The RDA will be required to assist during IV sedation and patients undergoing general anesthetic to have dental work completed. The dental clinic works closely with patients from the Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Care Center who are undergoing head and neck radiation as well as assessing patients pre-operatively and for emergency consultation. The ACCC Dental Clinic is a complex care dental clinic that requires excellent interpersonal communication skills as well as a high level of previous RDA experience.
Description:
As a Dental Assistant, you will receive and prepare patients for treatment. You will prepare instruments and materials required, perform intra-oral procedures and chair-side assistance during dental procedures. You will maintain cleanliness of the dental area and perform routine maintenance. You will also provide oral health treatment and education to patients. You may perform billing and pre-authorization of insurance claims and participate in the development of educational resource materials. You will maintain dental charts, records and databases.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Operate related dental equipment. Knowledge and demonstration of techniques and standards of preventative and restorative clinical practice. Patient oral health education. Schedule patient appointments and record dental procedures. Perform intra-oral duties: including but not limited to x-rays, prophylaxis, pit and fissure sealants, and fluoride. Collaborate with team members. Physically able to carry out the duties of this position. 75% of shift is spend standing and/or walking. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. Able to work with minimum supervision. RDA sedation Certificate. Good understanding of insurance coverage and available government supports. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Minimum three years of clinical experience as a dental assistant. Ability to work independently within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 3-5 years' experience as RDA with complex medical patients. Experience in using Power Practice Dental software.
