Western Joint Electrical Training Society (WJETS) a training organization servicing IBEW Locals 230, 993 and 1003. Through Green Health - a federally funded project - our mission is to promote resiliency and long-term sustainability in the construction industry by providing mental health and substance use support to workers across green trades.
Job Overview
Green Health is seeking a compassionate and trauma informed Clinical Counsellor to join our team as we look to build and grow our mental health and wellness clinic. This position is central to delivering high-quality, evidence-based mental health and substance use services, including counselling, tailored to the unique challenges faced by the construction industry - which include higher rates of overdose, suicide, and toxic drug poisoning than most other professions.
Under the general direction of the Green Health Program Coordinator and WJETS Executive Director, you will be responsible for the delivery of mental health and substance use services for the Green Health project. Green Health was developed for green energy workers and apprentices in the BC Building Trades to have improved access to MHSU services such as clinical counselling, peer support, mental health training courses, and more, within the organization's framework for recovery services through a harm reduction lens.
Duties
Conduct client interviews, prepare case histories, and assess psychosocial and behavioral concerns.
Develop and implement individualized counselling and intervention plans aligned with clients' recovery goals.
Provide one-on-one therapy sessions, and facilitate group sessions and (or including) SMART Recovery.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling strategies and client progress.
Prepare detailed assessments, case notes, progress updates, and follow-ups as needed.
Refer clients to comprehensive service providers, including bed-based treatment.
Deliver public education sessions and trainings on mental health and substance use, and provide subject matter expertise on the development of such educational materials.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a field otherwise related to mental health.
Master's degree in clinical counselling or social work.
Registration as a Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
Several years of experience as a clinical counsellor.
Assets
Experience providing frontline services to marginalized populations.
Experience in community outreach and harm reduction.
Familiarity with construction and building trades industries and/or unions.
Preference for applicants with lived experience.
Additional Information
This is a temporary, 12-month contract position working 40 hours per week, with a possibility of extension through March 2028. WJETS is pleased to offer a comprehensive Health and Welfare package.
