Position Summary

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, under the direction of the Manager (or designate) & RN/RPN's, the Registered Care Aide provides assistance to patients with acute mental illness and substance use disorders. They will provide support as directed by the care plan utilizing psychosocial rehabilitation principles in all care aspects.




Must have current registration with the BC Care Aide Registry

Qualifications




Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience and registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry. Valid Class 5 BC driver's license.


Skills and Abilities:




Basic knowledge of Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation, psychiatric disorders, medications and side effects, and psychosocial rehabilitation principles Ability to establish and maintain rapport with patients including conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills. Ability to operate related equipment/instruments. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities. Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
