Your Opportunity:

The Community Paramedic Coordinator (CP Coordinator) reports directly to the Provincial Manager of the Mobile Integrated Healthcare- Coordination Center (MIHCC). The Registered ACP – Paramedic, Community Paramedic Coordinator will be responsible for a myriad of tasks and duties directly related to the MIHCC. Working under limited guidance and supervision, the Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) will be responsible for providing guidance and support to Community Paramedics (CP), EMS crews and regulated community healthcare providers. The goal of the MIHCC is to ensure that patients receive the right care, at the right time, by the right provider and are linked with appropriate resources to avoid reliance on the acute care system. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to form and grow the program by assisting with process development and identifying opportunities. Candidates will be rotated through dedicated Community Paramedic units to ensure that clinical competency and skills are maintained. The CP Coordinator will be expected to make informed decisions and utilize clinical judgement when speaking with EMS crews and other healthcare practitioners. The CP Coordinator will be required to manage and appropriately triage emergency situations from callers and transfer information to 911. CP’s provide immediate or scheduled medical supervision and treatment(s) that aren't currently in the community setting in collaboration with the patient's existing healthcare services. While the primary role of the Community Paramedic focuses on the delivery of primary and urgent care, they must still be able to provide emergency treatment should the situation arise.

Description:

As a Paramedic, you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from scenes of emergency and/or between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You will treat patients by administering medications, advanced life support (ALS) airway adjuncts and electrical therapy. You may also lead the ALS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as transfer vans, are properly stocked and equipped. Alberta Health Services EMS requires the proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization for all applicants external to AHS or internal to AHS, who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed six (6) prior to the date of your application. Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Advanced Care Paramedic program. Active registration with Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Must hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence with no more than six (6) demerits. Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test taken no more than six (6) months prior to the application date. Additional Required Qualifications: Must maintain clinical competencies within their scope of practice as determined by AHS. Must be able to aid in patient transfers, support the lifting and movement of patients as needed and assist EMS staff with loading of patients onto stretchers Be able to demonstrate satisfactory past work performance and relevant work experience. Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team. Excellent ability to multitask utilizing a variety of different computer software and technology combinations in a busy and dynamic environment. Completion of an accredited Advanced Care Paramedic program. Active registration with Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Must hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's License with no more than six (6) demerits. Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test taken no more than six months from the application date. Preferred Qualifications: Previous Community Paramedic experience is an asset. Previous Patient Coordinator experience preferred. Previous experience in a community health or urgent care setting preferred. Previous leadership experience preferred.
