Director, Environment & Regulatory - Canadian Operations

We are seeking a
Regional Environmental Manager
to join our Environment, Climate and Sustainability team. This leadership role provides technical guidance, environmental expertise, and strategic direction to approximately ten lumber, pulp, and wood panel operations across British Columbia. The successful candidate will work closely with both mill operations and corporate teams to drive continuous improvement in environmental compliance, performance, and sustainability.
In addition, this position will coordinate and oversee the Environmental and Regulatory Audit Program for all 24 Canadian operations (BC, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec) and contribute to the development of global Environmental Management System (EMS) standards, guidance, and tools.
What You'll Do
Provide strategic and technical leadership to mill environmental teams to:
+ Maintain regulatory compliance and reporting
+ Ensure adherence to Corporate Environmental Management System (EMS) expectations
+ Advance performance in environmental and sustainability goals Coach, train, and develop environmental professionals across mill sites, fostering strong environmental leadership and accountability
Lead the development and implementation of site environmental improvement initiatives
Support operations in risk-based analysis, prioritization, and action planning for environmental issue management
Coordinate and oversee the Environmental and Regulatory Audit Program, including contractor management and participation in internal audits
Track and report environmental performance metrics, focusing on audit findings and corrective actions
Represent West Fraser on industry associations and working groups, contributing to policy development and regulatory engagement
Collaborate with corporate and site teams to develop, communicate, and implement global EMS standards, procedures, and tools related to:
+ Environmental audits and reporting
+ Contractor management
+ Environmental business planning
+ Training and performance improvement
What You Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Forestry, or a related discipline
Minimum 10 years of experience managing environmental programs in the industrial or manufacturing sector
Master's Degree considered an asset
Strong working knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and environmental/regulatory audit frameworks
Experience in forestry, pulp and paper, lumber, or other heavy manufacturing environments preferred
Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple priorities and balance short- and long-term objectives
Proven leadership skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach
High professional integrity and a commitment to continuous learning
Willingness to travel regularly throughout BC and across Canada

The typical yearly salary range for this position I s between $136,000-$161,000 based on years' experience, education, location and background.
