The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $115,274 - $144,093 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.
  • Performance range: $165,707 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
The UBC Faculty of Medicine activities through the Vancouver Island region includes medical and health professions education and research located on the ancestral, unceded, and traditional territories of the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka'wakw peoples.
The Island Medical Program (IMP) is a regional education site for the Faculty of Medicine's distributed MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP). The distributed education model is delivered through four regional sites: the Northern Medical Program (NMP), based at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George; the Southern Medical Program (SMP), based at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus in Kelowna; the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP), based at University of British Columbia Vancouver Campus.
The development, implementation and management of the IMP is an innovative collaboration amongst the University of Victoria (UVic), the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Island Health (IH) with a mandate to provide medical education training to medical students through the IMP, and to support resident training through the postgraduate programs situated on Vancouver Island. Building on the success of the distributed model for medical education, the UBC Faculty of Medicine also distributes health professional programs, e.g., the Master of Physical Therapy and the Masters of Speech Language Pathology in collaboration with the University of Victoria and Island Health. The Regional Associate Dean Vancouver Island's office enhances UVic's existing health and health-related programs and offers opportunities for Vancouver Island based students to study medicine and health professional programs locally.
The IMP has a mandate to engage in and collaborate with partners in health sciences related research, including supporting UBC academic and clinical physicians engaged in research on Vancouver Island and providing research opportunities to medical learners.
Mandate:
The Regional Director of Administration (RDA) provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure the effective administration of the regional site in support of its academic, research and community missions. Working in close partnership with the Regional Associate Dean and Senior Director, the RDA advances institutional priorities through the integrated management of administrative functions, fostering operational excellence, accountability, and a supportive environment for learners, faculty and staff.
The RDA also works in collaboration with the Senior Management team at the University of Victoria, and with the Senior Administrative Management team within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.
Objective:
The Regional Director of Administration, Vancouver Island oversees and coordinates the full spectrum of administrative services that enable the successful delivery of UBC Faculty of Medicine education and research programs on Vancouver Island. Key areas of responsibility include strategic planning and operations, financial management, human resources, facilities and space management, policy development and compliance, internal and external relations and learner and program support. The role ensures that administrative systems and resources are aligned to institutional goals, meet accreditation standards, responsive to regional needs, and positioned to sustain program quality and growth.
Job Requirements
A university degree in business administration, management, education administration or a related field and a minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive leadership experience in complex academic, healthcare, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated experience in financial management, human resources, and operational oversight, working with interdisciplinary teams. Formal project management training will be an asset as will an understanding of change management and conflict resolution principles. Ongoing professional development will be required to meet evolving operational requirements or complexities. Exceptional communication, relationship management and strategic planning skills. Proven ability to lead through influence, manage change, and foster collaboration across diverse groups.

Occasional travel to other local sites as well as to Vancouver, Prince George and Kelowna may be required.
This position involves frequent periods of high volume work related to program and committee responsibilities with 2-4 hours of intense concentration each day and tight, non-negotiable deadlines.
