Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

A Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic is responsible to perform the duties required such as supply mechanical trade services by troubleshooting, repair, installation and fabrication of HVAC equipment to support the day-to-day operation of CNL industrial equipment and to ensure customer commitments are met.

DUTIES

Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • To trouble shoot, repair, maintain, dismantle, install and adjust all types of refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning equipment such as; fans, compressors, condensers, pressure regulating valves, expansion valves, pressure control humidistat, thermostats and water regulating valves usd in air conditioing work.
  • Balance ventilation systems to design specifications and after modifications have been made, take air velocity readings with a volumeter or other instruments used for this purpose.
  • Read and interpret drawings, work packages and reference materials to ensure that the scope of a given job is fully understood and that all aspects of the job have been considered and comply with AECL regulations and all applicable code's.
  • Perform leack checks.
  • Change and discharge Freon cooling systems and gas insulated x-ray equipment.
  • Install Freon lines, flare, silver solder or soft solder using Pres-To-Lite or Oxygen Acetylene Torch as required.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal and AECL regulations in order to provide a safe and efficient working environment. Attend monthly safety meetings and immediately report any safety concerns and/or infractions. Apply Event Free Tools and Pre-job Brief information throughout the execution of assigned work and models this behaviour and knowledge to others.
  • Assist in the training, coaching and mentoring of apprentices and co-op students in safe workshop practices and procedures including work planning, assisting and development of skills by demonstrating techniques, describing suitable methods. Monitor, assess and correct work performance, discuss problems and improvements and report progress to supervisor and identify further training needs.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Secondary school graduation diploma and qualification as a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic typically acquired through the completion of the required 9000-hour apprenticeship.
Abilities and Skills
  • Knowledge of all applicable codes, standards and all applicable CNL procedures in order to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Demonstrated use and endorsement of Personal Protection Equipment (PEE).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints and drawings.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to be able to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across a broad range of disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office in order to update and write procedures, create spreadsheets, input data and communication via email.
  • Experience with DDC (Distributed Digital Control Systems) would be an asset.
