In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the BCCA Provincial Library Leader (PPL), the Reference Librarian will work cooperatively with other Library staff at any of the BCCA Cancer centres, to provide reference and research consultation services, literature searches, bibliographic instruction and information literacy training, technical support, and web maintenance support. Trains volunteers to assist with consumer health collections. Assists with collection development, document delivery and circulation.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Provides reference and research consultation for BCCA clinicians, researchers and staff.
  • Provides reference services to patients, members of the public, students and non-staff health-care providers.
  • Performs detailed literature searches for BCCA clinicians, researchers and staff, by searching in online databases such as Medline, EBMR, Embase, and Cinahl; by searching for grey literature (including health statistics) on the internet.
  • Develops, delivers, and evaluates library instruction for classroom, one-on-one or online training environments.
  • Maintains library e-resources, including developing intranet web content, troubleshooting connectivity and user/technical issues.
  • Develops and maintains BCCA website content for staff and the public using a content management system.
  • Assists in collection development activities including selection and evaluation of materials, weeding, inventory, and other functions.
  • Assists with development and maintenance of BCCA integrated library system databases such as catalogue, serials, borrowers, loans, pamphlets and orders.
  • Participates in planning related to library services, collections, and technologies.
  • Works in conjunction with BCCA Volunteer Coordinators to train Cancer Information Centre volunteers by providing orientation and training in Library/CIC procedures; acts as a support and resource person for library/CIC volunteers.
  • Liaises with Patient Education Committees and health educators as required to assist with copyediting for the health literacy level of the intended audience, and in the selection and approval of patient education resources.
  • Represents the library on provincial and regional committees and working groups as requested by PLL.
  • Promotes the BCCA Library and Information Service to staff and to patients.
  • Participates in professional activities and maintains current knowledge of developments, technologies, and trends in library and information science.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you bring

Qualifications
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited Library School, one (1) year\xe2\x80\x99s experience in a health-related library and/or a subject background in a health-related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
