Position We are looking for a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter for a full-time/regular position. The role will be based at the Mine mine, 250km north of Whitehorse, YT. This is a camp-based operation with a two week on/two weeks off rotation. Travel to/from Whitehorse and the mine site is paid for by the company.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have:
- Current Red Seal/Journeyman Carpenter\'s certificate;
- Minimum 4 years of industrial carpentry experience and completion of an apprenticeship, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
- Experience in a camp-based environment would be an asset;
- Experience operating machinery including a telehandler, and Aerial work platforms, would be an asset;
- Certification on fall protection and confined space entry is ideal;
- Strong reading, writing, and speaking skills (in English);
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow blueprints;
- Comfortable using ladders and scaffolding;
- Demonstrated ability to operate hand, air, and power tools;
- Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly;
- Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade;
- Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods;
- Works well as part of a team;
- Valid driver\'s license;
- Must be eligible to work in Canada;
- Physically fit to perform the duties of the position.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in renovations and maintenance of commercial infrastructure;
- Perform work in accordance with safety best practices;
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition;
- Identify and report needed repairs;
- Cut, shape, and alter materials as needed;
- Measure and mark materials for alterations;
- Encourage and support the development of junior personnel;
- Practice and promote company environmental, health, safety, and operational policies and procedures;
- Participate in ongoing training and development as needed;
- Promote teamwork, cross-cultural relations and understanding;
- Maintain a high standard of performance in your duties;
- Be an effective communicator in English (verbal and written) at all levels, including keeping your cross-shift and other team members fully informed
- Participate in site-specific training;
- Comply with company standards, as well as Yukon Territory and Canadian building codes;
- Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor which may include duties and labour outside the trade(s);
Priority consideration will be given to Selkirk First Nation citizens, Northern Tutchone citizens, Yukon First Nations and residents of Yukon Territory.
