Primary Function of Position

The Recuperative Care Support Worker (RCSW) provides personal care and companionship to our Recuperative Care Guests, to meet the challenges of daily life. This role is critical in ensuring that the Recuperative Care guests convalesce in a safe and supportive environment, enabling them to recover sufficiently to transition out of recuperative care and to attain long term security including housing to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.

Desired Skills and Experience

Position Requirements

• Diploma in Human Services such as Human Service Worker or Social Service Worker.
• Minimum of 1 year experience working in a care center or health facility or in creating and/or following guest health care and behaviour plans.
• Previous experience working or volunteering with homeless support services or related outreach work in other vulnerable populations is an asset.
• Open to consider new graduates.
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
• Moderate knowledge of MS Office Suite and a general basic operational knowledge of office equipment.
• Knowledge and understanding of substance abuse, concurrent disorders and mental illness.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise de-escalation techniques in daily work and interaction with guests.
• Ability to work with adults with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative team.

Conditions of Employment

• Successful Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Search required prior to start of employment;
• Must abide by the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Policy & Code of Conduct;
• Must be aware and supportive of the Mission Statement of the Catholic Charities Men\'s Shelter in the spirit of Jesus Christ and adhere to the Archdiocesan Code of Ethics.

• Schedule will vary depending on the needs of Recuperative Care;
