Ambulatory Services\xe2\x80\x99 Adult Day Program

(The Samuel Lunenfeld Mountainview Club) has an opportunity for

RECREATIONIST, TEMPORARY FULL TIME

(APPROX. 6 MONTHS)

70 hours bi-weekly -Days (shifts may be subject to change)

OPSEU 595 Service - Hourly Wage Rate: $25.23 - $31.43

The Adult Day Program is focused on offering older adults a wide range of social, cognitive, physical and spiritual activities. This program is designed for community dwelling seniors with physical frailty as well as mild to moderate cognitive impairment. Foundational to the Therapeutic Recreation service provided in the Ambulatory Services\xe2\x80\x99 Adult Day Program, is the use of leisure time to allow individuals the opportunity for self-determination and the utilization of their personal strengths to engage in meaningful activities and to enhance their quality of life and their overall well-being.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate therapeutic (in person and virtual) recreation programs that acknowledge individual and cultural diversity
  • Work with the Therapeutic Recreation and interprofessional teams to develop therapeutic programs, including ideation, design and piloting
  • Liaise with TR, external vendors and partner organizations to organize logistics for all cultural events and programming
  • Deliver programs considering the strengths, abilities and any contraindications imposed by client diagnosis in collaboration with the CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) and other Recreationists
  • Participate in development and implementation of formal and informal evaluation measures in collaboration with CTRS and/or Recreation Therapists and/or Professional Practice Chief
  • Gather information from a variety of sources for ongoing evaluation (i.e. clients, families, professional team members and/or other stakeholders)
  • Attend team meetings
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled live programs, with clients participating in real time over the Internet (certain events and programming may occur outside of regular business hours)
  • Includes recording attendance and providing feedback reports as requested
  • Content may be delivered in a regular studio setting, but will frequently occur in additional settings
  • Seek out innovative ways to enhance program offerings, and to stay aware of emerging best practices and trends
  • Help to co-manage live events and assist with client engagement and troubleshooting
  • Complete documentation as required
  • Contribute to interprofessional team and therapeutic recreation professional development
  • Coordinate services with other staff/departments
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of program supplies
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
  • Completion of a two (2) year College Diploma in Recreation or Activation or equivalent
  • Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (\xe2\x80\x98TRO\xe2\x80\x99) or Activity Professionals of Ontario (\xe2\x80\x98APO\xe2\x80\x99)
  • Qualifications and/or professional development certification in fitness programming for older adults/seniors
  • At least 1 year experience required
  • Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating physical exercise and other programs over virtual channels, such as videoconferencing, proficiency with facilitating programs over Zoom
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of software, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint, and Publisher
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, report writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent communication, and problem solving skills
  • Experience in supervision of volunteers preferred
  • Proven ability to organize time, set priorities, work independently, and to multitask in order to meet various competing work deadlines
  • Experience with a geriatric population with multiple medical conditions and/or cognitive impairment preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources an asset
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture, Holy Days and festivals are an asset
  • Second language an asset, i.e. Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian or Hungarian

This is a unionized position with OPSEU 595.
