Position Overview
The Seniors Hub Recreation Assistant is a key member of the Wellbrook Place Integrated Seniors Hub team, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors in our community. This multifaceted role supports seniors' physical, emotional, and social well-being through holistic, person-centered care.
While the primary focus is on recreation programming, the Recreation Assistant is also cross-trained as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide personal care and assistance as needed. This unique combination allows for meaningful relationships with participants while ensuring they are engaged, supported, and thriving within the Hub community.

Key Responsibilities and Activities
Plan, organize, and deliver engaging recreational and social programs that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Encourage participation and adapt activities to meet diverse needs and abilities.
Support residents and participants in attending programs and events.
Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment in all activity areas.
Document care provided, observations, and interactions accurately and in a timely manner; support program evaluation.
Assist seniors with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Provide mobility support, including transferring, positioning, and ambulation.
Encourage social interaction among seniors, fostering a supportive environment that combats isolation and boredom.
Assist with feeding when necessary, ensuring dignity and respect.
Participate in care planning and conferences with families and interdisciplinary teams.
Conduct assessments and make referrals as appropriate.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Diploma or Certificate in Recreation Therapy, Activation, Gerontology, or a related field (or in progress).
Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certification or equivalent cross-training.
Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
Experience and Skills
Experience working with older adults, preferably in community or long-term care settings.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
Understanding of person-centered care principles and the unique needs of seniors.
Familiarity with age-related health conditions and their management.
Awareness of dietary needs and preferences, including special diets and allergies.
Professional Certifications / Licenses

Years and Type of Experience
Experience providing personal care, healthcare support, recreational activities, or dietary assistance in a senior care setting is an asset.
Experience planning and facilitating recreational programs for seniors (community or residential) is an asset.
Knowledge of dietary guidelines and food safety regulations is an asset.
