We're looking for One (Full-Time) experienced, Recreational/Activity Aide to join our team of Professionals. The right candidate will have previous recreational experience and must excel in a seniors living environment. Responsibilities:
The Recreation Assistant supports the planning and delivery of engaging programs and activities that enhance the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being of residents. Working as part of the recreation team, this role helps create a warm, inclusive, and stimulating environment where residents can enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle Recreation aides will work alternating weekends and shifts throughout the week, based on needs of the home.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the planning, organization, and delivery of recreational programs, events, and outings.
Encourage resident participation and provide one-on-one engagement to promote social connection.
Support residents with varying levels of physical and cognitive ability to participate safely and comfortably.
Prepare activity materials, set up and clean up spaces before and after programs.
Record attendance and assist with documentation related to program participation.
Collaborate with staff across departments to ensure residents' needs and preferences are met.
Help decorate common areas and activity spaces for holidays and special occasions.
Escort residents to and from programs as needed.
Follow infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies at all times.
Physical Demands:
1. Be able to lift up to 25Lbs.
2. Must be able to run and perform exercises for Senior exercise classes.
3. Standing for extended periods of time - for up to 8hrs/day.
: Risk Management and General Safety
1. Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.
2. Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures including extinguishers (as applicable), SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
3. Reports all accidents/incidents immediately.
4. Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately.
5. Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies.
6. Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.
Qualifications:
Recreation aides should have a diploma/degree in Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or of similar standing. Recreation aides should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Recreation aides should have at least 1 year experience working in a recreational setting with older adults.
High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in recreation, gerontology, or related field an asset).
Experience working with older adults or in a retirement or long-term care setting preferred.
Friendly, patient, and compassionate demeanor.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Creative, organized, and adaptable to residents' needs.
Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Must be willing to work every other weekend.
