RTA's work under the direction of a Recreation Therapist to deliver recreation therapy services. They assist in the delivery of goal-oriented programs and services to meet the leisure related needs of clients. The two main responsibilities of the RTA include: program development and program delivery as well as program observation and reporting. RTA's provide input, which will enable the Recreation Therapist to conduct assessments, develop intervention plans or evaluate a client's progress in relation to the intervention plan.
Duties
:
Accepts work assignment directly from the Recreation Therapist and reports directly to the Director of Patient Care Services.
The Recreation Therapist Assistant (RTA) supports the supervising Recreation Therapist in implementation of therapist approved services and programs.
Provide supportive care consistent with resident treatment needs and goals.
Under the direction of the Recreation Therapist, assists with individual resident treatment program
Assist in or conducts group activity programs that are therapeutic or general activity programs
Assist in implementing recreation participation programs to meet resident interests
Assist resident to practice using assistive or adaptive equipment
Monitor and report changes, health status to the supervising RT and/or treatment team on a regular basis
Participate in professional, program and hospital-wide initiatives
Set up and maintain clean and safe resident treatment areas
Assist in the maintenance of equipment and supplies inventory
Presents a positive image of the Royal in the community
Supports the philosophy of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group Follow the policies and procedures of the Royal as outlined in the Policy & Procedures Manual
Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal's Anti-Racism, Harassment, & Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Post-Secondary education in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized College or University
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent problem-solving skills
Class F Drivers License an asset
Knowledge and experience of safe patient handling asset
Knowledge and experience in group facilitation asset
Knowledge and experience in mental health asset
Valid Police Records Check, for vulnerable sector
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional multi-disciplinary treatment team.
Computer literate and capable of coaching patients with respect to computer use.
Ability to effectively work with a team and communicate with diverse populations.
English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingualism an asset.
Salary Range:
30.49 to 35.15 per hour
