Unionville Home Society (UHS) is a not-for-profit charitable organization located in Unionville that has provided leadership in service to seniors since 1967. Unionville Home Society and its affiliate corporations operate a long-term care home, seniors' housing, a seniors' active living center, an adult day program, and geriatric outreach services. Position
Brief Summary: The Recreation Therapist plays a pivotal role in the delivery of resident-centered care within our long-term care home. The Recreation Therapist is responsible for the delivery of daily resident care and resident safety and is as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop Person Centered Restorative Care Plans and programs that are responsive to the needs and wishes of residents respecting their autonomy and self-direction.
Organize, implement and evaluate resident participation and satisfaction with restorative care group programming and one-to-one interactions.
Document goals and objectives and outcomes on computerized care plans.
Qualifications
Required Education:
Diploma in Recreation Therapy from an accredited college or degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited university;
Member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO)
Experience:
Experience working in a long-term care home is an asset
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated experience facilitating group activities/programs[AF1]
Current knowledge of geriatric/long term care best practice and standards is an asset
Work well with team members, residents, families, volunteers, supervisors and other department members
Proficiency in computers - Microsoft Office, Internet
Demonstrated team leadership and management skills [AF2]
Outstanding organizational skills to manage many competing timetables and responsibilities
Ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy
Empathetic attitude and desire to contribute towards the well being of the elderly
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and with others
