Oversees the planning and implementation of emotional, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual therapeutic programs both within and outside of the home; Maintains awareness of the changes in the conditions and behaviours of residents to provide support in modify programs to best meet their needs; Assists with educating and training recreation staff on therapeutic recreation practices and interventions; Works as a member of the interdisciplinary team, co-treating with physiotherapy, social work, doctors, nursing and more; Provides guidance with overseeing recreation-based documentation done by recreation staff such as recreation assessments, care plans, RAI MDS, and care conferences to ensure they are accurate and up to date; Follows all established policies and procedures, including site-specific recreation therapy policies; Take part in care conferences and meetings with Residents and Families to discuss recreation needs and interests; Assist with administrative tasks and projects as required; Other duties as assigned. Planning, coordinating, directing, and monitoring the effectiveness of all operational activities within the recreation department; Assessing of individual resident activity and leisure requirements, interests, and abilities to identify needs, develops appropriate support to optimize resident involvement, and introduces new and/or modified activities, programs, services as applicable; Contribute to a culture of relationship-based care by improving safety, quality, resident, and staff satisfaction within HMLTCH; Participates in all Quality and Risk management program related to recreation activities; Knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights, LTCHA (Long Term Care Homes Act,) and associated regulations and always promotes a resident first philosophy; Develops and fosters partnerships within the community. Utilizes community resources to assist in providing recreation opportunities where appropriate Ensures continued promotion and adherence to the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity; Models and fosters an environment of positive customer service in all aspects of care; Always carries oneself in a professional and personable manner; Develop strong relationships with residents/families, becoming a trusted member of the circle of care; ensuring professional relationships are fostered with all team members and residents/families;

QUALIFICATIONS



Education Requirements



Diploma or higher in Recreation/Leisure or related field.
Preferred

Bachelor's degree or higher in Recreation/Leisure or related field. Bachelor's degree or higher in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.

Experience



2-3 years' experience in Long Term Care with specialized knowledge of Gerontology, Dementia 3 years' equivalent experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
