The Recreation Therapist works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to focus on goal directed, outcome-oriented behaviour designed to increase patients\' feelings of independence and improve quality of life through various leisure based interventions. Reporting to the Manager of Allied Health, the Recreation Therapist must adhere to the formal Therapeutic Recreation process, inclusive of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation through goal directed and outcome-oriented interventions. This role is a part of our dynamic allied health team and includes collaboration with the entire interdisciplinary team of professionals.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCEThe ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Therapeutic Recreation preferred
  • Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or Allied Diploma and Post Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Recreation required
  • R/TRO or eligible for registration with Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario
  • Recent experience in Therapeutic Recreation in Complex Continuing Care or Rehabilitation setting
  • Able to apply knowledge of appropriate assessments tools and techniques based on patient profile and hospital mandate.
  • Develops patient-centered intervention plan based on assessment data and individual learning preferences.
  • Utilizes a collaborative model with support networks when establishing the Recreation Therapy intervention plan and the inter-professional care plan.
  • Implements a patient-centered approach to program development;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of individual and group facilitation techniques.
  • Delivers programs taking into account the strengths, abilities, and any contraindications imposed by patient diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of relevant resources to achieve maximum patient independence in recreation and leisure activities (adaptive devices, transportation resources).
  • Document in a manner that meets specific professional, and hospital requirements.
