Overview

The Recreation Therapist plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals through therapeutic recreation activities. This position involves working with diverse populations, including seniors, children, and individuals with specific health challenges such as dementia or those receiving hospice care. The Recreation Therapist will assess clients' needs, develop tailored activity plans, and implement programs that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Duties

Conduct assessments to determine clients' interests, needs, and abilities related to recreational activities. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that incorporate therapeutic recreation strategies. Facilitate group and individual activities designed to improve clients' physical, cognitive, and social skills. Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, social workers, and case managers to provide comprehensive care. Maintain accurate documentation of client participation and progress in accordance with medical terminology standards. Educate clients and their families about the benefits of recreational therapy in various settings such as assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and hospice care environments.

Skills

Strong understanding of senior care principles and practices. Proficiency in medical terminology relevant to therapeutic interventions. Experience in data collection methods for tracking client progress. Knowledge of assisted living environments and the unique needs of residents. Experience working with children in recreational or therapeutic settings is a plus. Familiarity with dementia care techniques to support cognitive engagement. Ability to provide compassionate hospice care through meaningful recreational activities. Skills in case management to coordinate care effectively across various disciplines within healthcare settings.

Contract length: 3 months

Pay: $40.00-$42.00 per hour

Experience:

recreational therapy: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
