The Recreation Therapist- I, provides program and client support as a key member of the In-Patient Psychiatric unit at St. Therese Healthcare Centre in St. Paul. As a Recreation Therapist, you will apply an evidence-based and client centered approach to help clients experience the health benefits of leisure, positive emotion and to build resources and coping skills to contribute to their overall recovery goals. The successful candidate will require excellent assessment skills and be proficient at designing individualized recreation programs for clients in either group or individual settings. The Recreation Therapist requires strong interpersonal and communication skills as you collaborate with other team members, health care providers, clients and their families. Confidentiality and a high level of professionalism are essential. Please note that this role has a physical part of it with moving, standing and carrying loads of varying size and weights. Located within Alberta's Lake country on the traditional lands of Treaty 6, and the beautiful lands of the Metis. St. Paul was founded in 1896 as a Metis colony. The area is home to approximately 6000 people. St. Paul is along the southern leg of the Iron Horse Trail - 300 km of former railroad that has been adapted for hiking, biking, horseback riding, quadding, or snowmobiling. Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.
