Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Care Manager for Allied Health and Patient Experience, the Recreation Therapist I (RecT I) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team that uses recreation and leisure to promote the recovery process for individuals living with addiction and/or mental health concerns. This position is part of a centralized Recreation Therapy Team that will facilitate a mix of centralized programming as well as providing support to dedicated unit. The Recreation Therapist will support both the Secure Stabilization and Treatment unit (3-5) and Specialized Secure Forensic Unit (3-7) in Forensics. Responsibilities include assessing a client's recreation and leisure needs, developing treatment plans and programs, providing evidenced based therapeutic programs and interventions to meet these needs, and evaluating the client's progress. The incumbent will utilize a strength based, recovery-oriented approach in their service delivery at the site. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active ATRA Membership; Valid Heart & Stroke Foundation BLS-HCP; NVCI; must have demonstrated experience with individual and group program facilitation; experience working with individuals with Mental Health and Addictions concerns.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working within a forensic setting; Understanding and knowledge of recovery orientated care and risk needs responsivity model; Strong patient and family centered approach; Ability to work within a collaborative team environment; CTRS designation considered an asset; Demonstration of punctuality, dependability and attendance record verifiable by references.
