The Arthur J.E. Comprehensive Cancer Centre is a new, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to healing, hope, and holistic wellness. As part of our commitment to whole-person care, we're seeking a compassionate and creative Recreation Therapist to join our team. In this role, you will design and deliver therapeutic recreation programs that support the emotional, physical, and psychological well-being of patients undergoing cancer treatment, palliative, and end-of-life care. You'll collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers-including physicians, Spiritual Health Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Therapy Assistants-to create individual and group interventions that bring comfort, connection, and dignity through meaningful activities. Key responsibilities include: Assessing/ evaluating patients' skills, needs, interests and values related to recreation and leisure. Designing individualized and group treatments using modalities such as: arts and crafts, games and music. Enhancing emotional, social, and spiritual well-being during/ after cancer treatment, palliative care and end of life care. Facilitating legacy work with patients undergoing cancer treatment or bone marrow transplant, supporting meaningful reflection, memory-making, and emotional expression through personalized therapeutic activities. Setting up group rooms, maintaining supplies and equipment. Partnering with volunteers and contracted services to deliver unit- and site-wide programming. Connecting patients/families with community resources and social supports. Orienting/ mentoring/ supervising students and new staff. This position requires availability on Mondays and Fridays and will primarily support inpatient services, with potential to expand into outpatient care. Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience working as a Recreational Therapist. Completion of a practicum in a healthcare setting, ideally with exposure to adult oncology and/ or palliative care. Heart & Stroke Level C Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by first day of work. Ability to lead evidence-informed recreation interventions and therapeutic activities tailored to emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. Ability to navigate community resources to support ongoing rec therapy support upon discharge. Experience developing and delivering adult group recreation therapy programming. Strong skills in interdisciplinary collaboration. Experience using adaptive equipment and techniques to ensure safe participation of patients especially those experiencing fatigue, pain and mobility changes caused by cancer and treatments. Experience offering comfort and dignity through leisure experiences. Experience providing meaningful legacy-focused activities. Demonstrated respect and ability to integrate diverse cultural and spiritual values. Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years' experience supporting adults with chronic or life-limiting conditions, including cancer. Experience collaborating with volunteers and contractors. AFLCA and Safe Food Handling certified. Additional training in palliative care, grief support or trauma-informed care. Familiarity with cancer treatments, including bone marrow transplants and cellular therapy.
