Recreational Therapists promote health and wellness by assisting residents to participate in leisure, social, physical and community roles while addressing their barriers due to illness, disability, chronic conditions, and aging.
ROLE/PURPOSE
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA.)
Must have or be willing to obtain Class 4
Must have completed or be willing to complete; First Aid/BLS with CPR annually
Supportive Pathways training or equivalent education in dementia
Knowledge of the Continuing Care Health Service Standards of Alberta is an asset.
Must be willing to attend courses as requested by Management.
Work Experience
Experience working in a Supportive Living 3,4/4D environment.
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher)

RESPONSIBILITES/ACCOUNTABILITES
Plan, administer and review recreational programs for all assessed residents while adhering to professional standards of practice. This includes programs both within and outside of the facility.
Document care, programs, and interactions as required on the residents' health care record and provide regular reporting on the activities program to the Resident Care Manager
Participate in the development of resident care plans and recommend eligible residents for higher care levels.
Ensure recreational activities are being completed effectively and as planned.
Meet with the Director of Care monthly to review the budget, spending activity, and concerns within the department.
Develop individual recreation plans as needed if group activities are not suitable for the resident.
Develop a recruitment and retention program for volunteers and oversee all aspects of the volunteer program.
Document any pertinent information and report health concerns to the Director of Care.
Promote a collaborative work environment and respect the multicultural views and diversity of residents and staff members.
Participate in admission/annual Care Conferences
Certification for Medication Assistance Program training to safely administer medications while on outings as needed.
Advocate for resident needs and take appropriate action to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
Communicate with resident family members when required.
Follow all appropriate safety procedures while in the building and off site.
Follow all standard precautions when dealing with infectious materials.
Perform any other tasks as assigned by management.
