Specialized Seniors Care is an acute medicine unit. This 34 bed unit cares for patients over 65 years of age with presence of geriatric syndrome and acute illness. Our aim is to enhance or maintain the health status and quality of life of older adults who have complex medical issues.


The team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, registered practical nurses, patient care assistants, behavioural support therapist, dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, elder life specialist, geriatrician, geriatric phycologist, a discharge planner, social worker, a respiratory therapist, a speech language pathologist, unit clerks, chaplain and volunteers. Each member has a specific role to play to ensure seamless integration of care and together, they strive to provide exceptional care to each patient and family.


As the

Recreation Therapist

you enable patients to acquire and/ or maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviours that will allow them to enjoy their leisure optimally and function independently with the least amount of assistance and participate as fully as possible in society. The Recreation Therapist provides programs and services that:

improve and maintain patients' skills and functional leisure abilities in the areas of physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning assist patients in utilizing previously acquired leisure skills or acquire new leisure skills appropriate to their limitations and future lifestyle promote an awareness of the importance of a successful leisure lifestyle promote knowledge and utilization of leisure resources within the home and community identify information and resources pertaining to physical and architectural barriers commonly found in the environment actively involve patients in the community in order to promote independence when returning to the home environment
As a qualified candidate you will have the following job requirements:

Four year undergraduate degree Post graduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation One to three years' experience Working with people with disabilities Working with seniors Working with and leading groups Planning special events Working in a team setting Working in a health care setting (charting, medical terminology, implications of disease, etc.)
