Leisure is an important component of both quality of life and well-being. It allows individuals opportunities for self-determination and utilization of strengths while engaging in meaningful leisure, which is the foundation of Therapeutic Recreation services.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Works with the Apotex Therapeutic Recreation Culture & Arts and Spiritual Care teams to develop and facilitate therapeutic and purposeful programs and to design programs using best practices to meet the physical, psychological, social, spiritual and emotional needs of residents living on the transitional behavioral support unit.
Completes documentation as required
Attends interprofessional team meetings and rounds
Interviews, orients, supervises and sets expectations with volunteers
Contributes to interprofessional team and therapeutic recreation professional development
Coordinates services with other staff/departments
Develops and maintains inventory of program supplies
Utilize Behaviour Support Ontario protocols and tools
Provides mentorship and guidance to colleagues and as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
Supports the spread of improvement practices regarding the management of responsive behaviours through therapeutic programming
Maintain effective relationships with Community Partners, Volunteers and Caregivers.
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
Four (4) year Honours Degree in Therapeutic Recreation (\xe2\x80\x98TR\xe2\x80\x99) or Recreation & Leisure Studies with TR specialization preferred; equivalencies will be considered.
Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (\xe2\x80\x98TRO\xe2\x80\x99).
Additional Education/ Certificates Preferred including: U-First, Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA); PIECES, DementiAbility Methods for Dementia; Mental Health First Aid for Seniors;
Extensive knowledge working with older adults with various forms of dementia, delirium, complex mental health and/or, other neurological conditions, including those with or at risk of responsive behaviours and the effects on care partners.
3-5 years\xe2\x80\x99 relevant experience in long-term care is preferred.
Knowledge of community resources an asset
Knowledge of Jewish culture, Holy Days and festivals is an asset
