Recreation Teacher - Saturday Morning Literacy Club

Contract position at $150 per day

Fall Term: October 4 - December 13, 2025 (10 weeks)

Possibility to extend to Winter Term

Time: 9:00 am - 1:00pm - (Saturday's only)

Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to:

Attend the pre-program planning session and staff meetings during the term Plan and implement weekly physical literacy-based programming for primary and junior groups aligned to program goals and student interest. This programming includes a variety of activities related to STEAM, physical education, and workshops that compliment the curriculum content. Prior to the Saturday Morning Literacy Club, plan the workshops in collaboration with the Site Director Work with student volunteers to establish appropriate teaching assistance and supervision Implement positive, safe routines and procedures Complete the end-of-the-program survey

Qualifications

OCT Certification 1-3 years experience as a teacher, youth program leader or facilitator, camp leader, sports coach Experience with STEAM activities like Dash and Dot robotics Experience leading groups of children in recreational activities (physical activity) Strong passion for and commitment to supporting youth Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, encourage youth involved in after-school programs Enthusiastic, fun, creative, and out-going personality; mature and responsible Experience working in a multicultural, low-income setting with an understanding of community development Provide an updated vulnerable sector police check prior to the start of the program Local knowledge of the community in which the program is run would be an asset
Start Date: October 4, 2025 (Mandatory planning meeting September 18 - online)

Pay: $150.00 per day
