NOTE 1: Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check or Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (CRJM) Check - All summer student positions within the Recreation Division require a Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check, or for those under the age of eighteen (18), a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (CRJM) Check. VS/CRJM Checks are at your own expense and must be submitted prior to beginning work. VS/CRJM Checks are to be obtained from the Municipality in which you permanently reside at your own expense. Please check your local Police Services website to confirm what identification is required, cost and payment method. Upon an offer you must provide an original VS/CRJM Check as indicated above with a "Date of Search" of less than sixty (60) days from hire date. VS/CRJM Checks greater than sixty (60) days will not be accepted. In order for your application to be considered, you must not have a criminal conviction for which a pardon has not been granted at the time of application and your VS/CRJM Check must be satisfactory to the City of Hamilton. NOTE 2: Minimum Age Requirement for Summer Student Positions within Recreation - Camp Counsellors must be at least sixteen (16) years of age within the 2023 calendar year as according to the Ontario Camps Association (OCA) Accreditation Guidelines (published January 2017). Supie Counsellors and Wading Pool Attendants must be at least fourteen (14) years of age at time of application as according to the Regulation for Industrial Establishments (R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 851) made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). NOTE 3: Licences and Certifications - All summer student positions within the Recreation Division require specific licences and/or certifications (please refer to each position). Please be aware that at time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide "proof" of you possessing the required licences and/or certificates. Please ensure all licences and certifications are clearly identified on your resume. NOTE 4: "Standard" First Aid with CPR Level "C" - Must possess and maintain current certification in "Standard" First Aid with CPR Level "C". (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All "Standard" First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website www.wsib.on.ca for approved providers. RECREATION SUMMER STUDENT POSITIONS:
CAMP COUNSELLOR (work Monday to Friday up to 42.5 hours per week, June 24 - August 23, 2024): Camp Counsellors plan and deliver programming activities and games for a group of 8-12 children aged 4 to 15. Follow a daily schedule and participate in programming, including swimming, outdoor activities, and offsite trips. Work as part of a camp team at a recreation centre location. Complete administrative duties, including attendance tracking, weekly planning and daily reports. Qualifications for a Camp Counsellor: Previous experience organizing activities for children aged 4-12. Must possess and maintain current certification in "Standard" First Aid with CPR Level "C". (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All "Standard" First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website www.wsib.on.ca for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide "proof" that you possess the required certificate(s). Must be able to obtain HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification prior to first scheduled shift. SUPIE COUNSELLOR (work Monday to Friday 24 to 35 hours per week - June 24 - August 23, 2024 [weather dependent]): Supie Counsellors plan and deliver programming activities and games in a local City of Hamilton park. Deliver safe programming which is flexible to the age and group size of children present. Working outdoors all day. Complete administrative duties, including attendance tracking and daily reports. Qualifications for a Supie Counsellor: Previous experience organizing activities for children aged 4-12. Must possess and maintain current certification in "Standard" First Aid with CPR Level "C". (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All "Standard" First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website www.wsib.on.ca for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide "proof" that you possess the required certificate(s). Must be able to obtain HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification prior to first scheduled shift. WADING POOL ATTENDANT (24 to 30 hours per week, including evenings and weekends - June 17 - September 2, 2024): Wading Pool Attendants monitor wading pools located throughout Hamilton. They are responsible for performs pool maintenance including draining and filling the pool, cleaning the pool area of debris and maintaining chemicals, ensures that the lifesaving equipment is maintained and available, enforces wading pool rules and responds to customer inquiries in a professional manner, performs rescues and first aid within accordance of certification standards, reports known or potential hazards, maintenance concerns, and unsafe conditions immediately to the Aquatic Supervisor or designate, completes appropriate documentation as required including pool log, attendance, accident and incident reports, works in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety. Qualifications for a Wading Pool Attendant: Must have a current Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion certification or higher aquatic certificate. Must possess and maintain current certification in "Standard" First Aid with CPR Level "C". (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All "Standard" First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website www.wsib.on.ca for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide "proof" that you possess the required certificate(s). *Must be at least fourteen (14) years of age at time of application.
