Reporting to the Director of Care, The Recreation Manager plans, executes, and evaluates a wide variety of therapeutic recreation programs and entertainment, to ensure that the physical, social, emotional intellectual, spiritual and cultural needs/interest of residents are met in accordance with established goals and policies. Recruits, assigns and updates therapeutic recreation staff duties and programs to ensure the effective delivery of quality services.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Develops and manages the administration of therapeutic services including recreation therapy, music therapy, volunteer resources, and developing organizational systems to reflect the department's role within the clinical services team. Manages all Therapeutic Recreation department staff by performing duties including recruitment, assigning work, evaluating employee performance, disciplining employees and determining related training and orientation requirements. Plans, implements, controls and evaluates departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures while ensuring that Haro Park Centre and client goals regarding the therapeutic recreation services are being met. Maintains departmental budget control by implementing the management policies and procedures of purchasing, ordering, stock and inventory as well as ensuring payroll and service delivery budgets meet targeted expectations. Provides direction to recreation therapists, recreation assistants, and music therapists with ongoing related professional practice support. In collaboration with the therapeutic recreation team, develops and maintains advantageous community partnerships, research opportunities, and fundraising to enhance programming for the residents. Ensures the development, documentation and ongoing maintenance of all resident therapeutic recreation care plans in accordance with regulations and assessment outcomes. Plans, implements and adapts therapeutic recreation programs such as exercise/fitness programs, social groups, sports activities, outings, etc., to meet the specific needs of residents. Develops documentation and reporting systems to maintain records and communication for the department. Ensures department preparation and participation in resident care conferences. Ensures the safe operation of all therapeutic recreation equipment and work areas and ensures equipment is kept clean, free of safety hazards and properly stored. Maintains equipment inventory and arranges for the repair and/or replacement of equipment as appropriate. Checks, orders and receives supplies. Ensures open communication with other department leaders. Collaborates with Clinical Nurse to develop individual and group programming that is responsive to resident needs. Develops therapeutic recreation plans in collaboration with the therapeutic recreation team to ensure quality of life is provided. Collaborates with other members of the Leadership Team to meet the goals and objectives of the organization in alignment with the Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Directions of Haro Park Centre.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS



Reports to the Haro Park Centre - Director of Care Provides "Hands-On" direct leadership of Therapeutic Recreation Department staff to meet resident's needs. Liaises with Assisted Living care staff to provide clinical recommendations and consultation related to health needs of tenants Works collaboratively as a member of the Haro Park Leadership team in the effective operation of Haro Park Centre Works collaboratively with all Haro Park team members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



University graduation or diploma in therapeutic recreation plus five (2) year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Valid First Aid, Food Safe and Serving It Right certificates an asset. A valid class 4 motor vehicle license Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position Ability to operate related equipment Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and organize work load Ability to work as a team member and to work effectively with others Ability to supervise, teach and coach Ability to support a respectful workplace environment Preferred experience and knowledge of Point Click Care, MDS RAI, MS Office, and Windows Programs

Strong hands-on management skills to lead, direct, and motivate staff. Ability to organize and utilize resources, to assess and assign priorities, and to assist staff to accept the changing needs and priorities with flexibility. Effective communication/presentation/verbal/written skills to interact with internal and external contacts. Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies. Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to deal with staff in a fair and consistent manner, which is consistent with the accepted labour relations concepts, practices and collective agreements. Sensitivity and a passion for meeting the needs of older adults and an ability to interact with residents, families, members of the community and all Haro Park residents.

Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
