Job Description

The Cranston Residents Association (Cranston RA), is a non-profit organization, which is professionally managed and maintained to ensure Cranston's community features, amenities and the Century Hall facility will continue to be both esthetically pleasing and conveniently available for the long-term use of its residents. The Cranston RA also offers many sports, fitness, and recreation programs for all age groups, throughout the year.

The Recreation Manager is a

full-time position, 40 hours per week

, responsible for providing leadership to the Recreation department, through innovative and creative recreation programming, events and community engagement for the community of Cranston, Century Hall and its amenities.

The Recreation Manager supervises two year-round staff members and provides seasonal oversight to the Day Camp Coordinators and day camp portfolio. The ideal candidate brings a balance of leadership, creativity, problem-solving, and strong interpersonal skills to drive high-quality programs and community engagement.

Hours:

Tuesday to Saturday; with availability in the evenings to support programs and events when required.

*Hours are subject to change based upon operational need, including program schedules and community events.

Responsibilities:



Leadership & Supervision



Supervise and support the Program Coordinator in planning and delivering programs for youth, adults, and seniors. Supervise the Community Engagement Coordinator, who is responsible for organizing community markets, securing sponsorships, and conducting resident surveys. Hire, train, and manage 2 seasonal Day Camp Coordinators. Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Program & Event Management



Oversee the planning, promotion, and delivery of all community events. Ensure programs and events reflect the diverse needs and interests of the community. Provide feedback and support to the Program Coordinator to ensure high-quality, responsive programming across all age groups.

Community Engagement & Communications



Support and guide the Community Engagement Coordinator on market operations, sponsorship outreach, and gathering community feedback Manage the organization's website and social media accounts to ensure timely, relevant, and engaging content. Act as a liaison with residents, parents, and community partners to foster strong relationships and encourage participation.

Safety & Facility Oversight



Serve as the Safety Lead, working with the General Manager to ensure a safe environment for residents, employees, and facility users. Develop, implement, and monitor safety procedures and incident response protocols. Train staff on safety practices and ensure compliance with organizational and legislative standards.

Administrative & Organizational Support



Assist the General Manager with operational planning and execution of strategic initiatives. Step in to support and find proactive solutions to resident and participant concerns Maintain accurate records, reports, and scheduling documentation. Oversee the department's budget, including monthly reconciliation reports and meticulous tracking on financial transactions

Qualifications



Diploma or degree in Recreation Management, Community Development, or a related field. Minimum 3-4 years of supervisory and staff management experience in a recreation setting is required. Experience in community engagement, sponsorship, or stakeholder relations is an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with website updates and managing social media platforms. Ability to manage conflict or sensitive conversations with professionalism and empathy. First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain). Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required upon hire).

Work Conditions



This is an on-site role Active, on-site presence at events, programs, and markets is expected. Regular interaction with residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Compensation:



Compensation to commensurate with experience. Benefits package and RRSP matching program included after successful probationary period.
