Position: Recreation Maintenance Supervisor

Salary Range: Level 8 ($65,659 to $73,901 per year)



Summary:

Reporting directly to the Manager of Parks and Recreation, the Recreation Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Town's recreational amenities including sports fields, parks, playgrounds, recreation facilities, community beautification and trail system. The Recreation Maintenance Supervisor leads the maintenance staff in an effective manner and ensures the level of morale is maintained, and that the facilities are maintained in a safe and secure manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of parks, recreational facilities, sports fields, trails, outdoor rinks, and community spaces within the Town of Cornwall.

Responsible for leading and motivating all recreation and facility maintenance team members including establishing weekly work plans.

Assist in the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of all recreation maintenance staff.

Be able to skillfully operate all machinery, equipment, vehicles, and trailers required in the Recreation Maintenance Department.

Develops maintenance work plans and schedules for the parks, facilities, and equipment.

Supervises maintenance and contractual activities related to facility maintenance and operations in the Recreation Maintenance Department as assigned by the Manager.

Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to assist and execute special events and programs as it relates to the Parks & Recreation Department.

Assists in the development and management of departmental budgets as it relates to facilities and operations.

Responsible for managing an inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment necessary for operations within the Department. Purchases goods and services according to approved policies and budgets.

Respond to emergencies and address any issues related to facilities or safety concerns within the Department in a timely and efficient manner. Ensures that machinery, equipment, and vehicles are properly maintained as per departmental procedures.

Ensures accurate records of all activities, inspections, and incident reports are completed and maintained.

Ensures that all work performed within the area of responsibility is conducted safely and in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and approved Town policies and procedures.

Responds to public enquiries and complaints according to approved procedures.

Ensures that all dealings with the public and other staff are conducted in a courteous
and professional manner.

Ensures an environment that provides excellent customer service in the community.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:



Ability to plan, prioritize and manage workloads, including the ability to facilitate changes, and still meet deadlines.

Ability to supervise and motivate staff.

Knowledge of the materials, equipment and practices employed in facility and grounds construction and maintenance.

Knowledge of the operation of recreation maintenance equipment and tools.

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.

Must have considerable knowledge of hazards and safety procedures applicable to the work.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.

Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to compile and maintain accurate records and reports.

Ability to perform physically strenuous work.

Education and Experience:



High School graduation or equivalent.

Certificate or Diploma in Facility Management, Landscaping, or Horticulture is an asset.

Minimum of 3 years experience in supervision of personnel.

Certification in playground safety and swimming pool operations, or willing to obtain certifications.

Standard First Aid/CPR and WHIMIS or willingness to obtain.

Valid Class 5 driver's license.

Work Environment:



Essential and marginal functions may require heavy lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized vehicles and equipment.

Proven team player and flexibility to work outside regular hours and holidays as required.

Fill in for staff during turn over or unanticipated leaves of absence.

Screening will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled
