Job Summary
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, Recreation Leaders facilitate play activities that provide a safe and fun play experience at city wide summer recreational sites hosted by the City of Saskatoon.
Activities and activity plans facilitated by Recreation Leaders include sports, games, arts, crafts, drama, music, water play.
Depending upon specific experience and interest, Recreation Leaders may be assigned to Nutrien Playland, Youth Centre Paddling Pools, Spray Pads, or Playground activities around the City!
Duties & Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and delivers balanced social and recreation activities with particular attention and focus on children and youth in our culturally diverse community.
• Monitors activities and ensures a safe, clean, and healthy values-based environment.
• Prepares activity plans incorporating a balanced recreation program based on weekly themes that meet the needs of the target group.
• Takes action to ensure all Occupational Health and Safety procedures are followed, including all Public Health Standards.
• Understands the Workplace Violence Prevention Program and Respectful and Harassment-Free Workplace Policies and expectations of the City of Saskatoon and supports a positive culture with the resolution of conflicts at recreation sites, where required.
• Coordinates and completes evaluations and reports of programming.
• Performs various daily maintenance and cleaning duties assigned at specific operations. This may include working with chemicals.
• Performs administrative duties as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements

• Completed Grade 10
• Preference is given to applicants with a minimum of one year of post-secondary education in recreation/leisure, physical education, early childhood development, education, or related field or one year of experience working/volunteering for children/youth in delivering recreation or children's programs.
• Experience working with Newcomer and Indigenous children and youth is an asset.
• Possession of or ability to obtain by position start date a valid, recognized standard first aid certificate and CPR level C.
• For positions where driving is required; possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence and current driver's abstract, from SGI, demonstrating a safe driving record is required.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

• Knowledge of the theory and principles of recreation program planning for children and youth that supports growth and development.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, and the public.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Ability to facilitate and lead recreation activities.
• Ability to respond to inquiries and communicate effectively with the public in a respectful manner.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and adapt to change quickly.
• Willingness to adapt to changing operational requirements, take additional training and move to alternate work sites as required.
• Demonstrated organizational skills.
• Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively orally and in writing to staff and public
• Uses the adapt the appropriate leadership style based on activity and needs of participants.
• Ability to learn and implement safe work protocols.

Requires Security Check
Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.
Weekly Hours: Daytime, Evening and Weekend work is involved.
Salary Range: $20.13 to $22.20 CAD per hour (2026 rates)
