Job Summary



Under supervision of the Indigenous Community Programmer, this position plans, organizes, and delivers recreation and Indigenous program activities. This includes sports, games, arts, crafts, drama, music and special events/ activities with an emphasis placed on the Indigenous culture.

Duties & Responsibilities


Plans, delivers and evaluates a balanced recreation program incorporating a variety of activities for youth. Adapts activities based on skill, age or number of participants at any given time. Prepares activity plans incorporating a balanced recreation program based on weekly themes that meet the needs of the target group. Coordinates and completes all required reports accurately and on time. Collects data on number of participants engaging with programs. Uses the appropriate leadership style based on activity and needs of participants. Ensures a safe play environment. Performs various daily maintenance and cleaning duties in relation to operation of the dry program areas and washrooms. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience Requirements


Grade 12 Successful completion of one year of post-secondary education in recreation/leisure, physical education, early childhood development, education or related field, preferred. One years' experience working with Indigenous children and youth. Ability to obtain prior to program start date a valid, recognised first aid certificate and CPR level C. Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants (self-declaration is optional during the application process) Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence and current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.



Knowledge, Abilities and Skills


Knowledge of the theory and principles of recreation and Indigenous cultural program planning, growth and development with regard to youth. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to facilitate and lead participation in recreation programs. Ability to communicate effectively with the public in a friendly and diplomatic manner. Ability to pass the Saskatoon Police Service security clearance process. Demonstrated skill in creative program planning and evaluation. Demonstrated organizational skills.

Requires Security Check


Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Additional Requirements



Daytime and evening work is involved.

Determined by the Department

Salary Range:

$19.64 to $21.66 CAD

per hour
