The role of the Recreation Lead Hand is to carry out and implement the maintenance standards, programs and plans established by the Recreation Foreman. In the Foreman's absence the Recreation Lead Hand will assume his/her duties as it pertains to recreation. This position also carries out maintenance duties for all facilities associated with recreation for the Town. Shift work is a requirement of this position.
JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Maintain, secure, and make improvements to Town-owned recreation facilities.
Make and maintain ice for the arena and maintain arena facilities.
Maintain Town of Coaldale outdoor sports fields.
Work with user groups and assist with special projects, such as league tournaments, and community events.
Perform general maintenance on recreation and other municipal facilities.
Ensure recreation facilities are cleaned on a regular basis, and that present and future hazards and corresponding upgrades or remedies are identified and implemented.
Oversee daily pool maintenance and other related responsibilities, including but not limited to: water testing and water levels; system fire up, chemical balance, boiler room
inspection, and deck repairs.
Oversee the daily work schedules and work quality of permanent and seasonal recreation staff.
Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum three years' experience in a similar setting.
Level 2 Arena Operating Certificate.
Level 2 Pool Maintenance Certificate.
Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
Strong leadership skills.
Knowledge with standard business software (Microsoft Office).
Building Maintenance and/or 5th Class Power Engineer Certifications a definite asset.
Sports Field Level 2 Certification a definite asset.
Combination of education and experience will be considered.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Subject to working in indoor environment - cold, walking on ice surface.
Subject to working in outdoor environment - heat, cold, dry, dusty and / or wet conditions as well as insects, bees and wildlife.
Moderate amounts of physical effort including bending, lifting, and walking.
Use and operation of a variety of vehicles including but not limited to 1?2 ton trucks and Zamboni.
Regular exposure to water treatment and cleaning/janitorial chemicals.
Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. may be required.
Normal working day consists of 8 hours; however occasional overtime may be required.
Evenings and weekend shifts required.
