We are currently seeking a full-time

Recreation Coordinator

to join our team at The Journey Club within the beautiful lakeside community of Westman Village in Mahogany.


From the world-renowned Dementia Care Matters organization founded by Dr. David Sheard over 20 years ago, the Butterfly Model of Care puts the feelings of those with dementia at the forefront of care. Recognizing that placing an emphasis on nursing tasks and medical care procedures for seniors with dementia is not always the most effective treatment method, the Butterfly Dementia Care Model allows your loved one to feel supported, cared for, and like their feelings matter.


We are looking for a compassionate, highly-trained, and empathetic recreation coordinator, the Butterfly Model of Care at The Journey Club is designed to look and feel just like a real home for seniors' experiencing dementia.


The Recreation Coordinator works with residents and allied professionals to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate recreation programs in a person-centered manner, which addresses resident needs and promotes overall safety. The Recreation Coordinator will work with residents, family members and volunteers to create an environment which fosters diversity, enables independence and dignity, and provides the utmost opportunity for optimal wellness and self-actualization.

A day in the life of a Recreation Coordinator:



Assist in the monthly planning & creation of the recreational calendar Review goals and ensure recreational programming is carried out appropriately to meet individual needs Participate in environmental safety audits Maintain appropriate records of residents, planned programs and attendance Transport residents to offsite activities by driving a provided vehicle Organize and prepare materials needed for upcoming programs Assisting with meal services as required

What you bring to the table:



Diploma/Certificate in Recreation studies or equivalent extensive work experience with seniors considered a strong asset Experience with seniors and/or people with disabilities required Minimum of 1 year working in the area of recreation/activity programming Completed First Aid and CPR Certificate an asset Ability to acquire a Class 4 Driver's License A current and clear Criminal Records Check Ability to perform a role that Involves extensive standing, walking, bending and lifting (up to 10kg is often required) Demonstrated ability to multi-task Exceptional time management skills, ability to prioritize Motivated, creative and willing to take calculated risks Ability to self-initiate and also work well as a team member Excellent written and verbal communication Excellent observational skills and ability to determine urgency or reportable incidents
