Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Child and Youth Support Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering a variety of recreation programs and activities for children, youth, and adults in the Ch'iyaqtel community. This role emphasizes promoting active, healthy lifestyles, fostering community connection, and incorporating land-based activities. This position requires flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to physically lead and participate in a wide range of activities, both indoors and outdoors.

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Ch'iyaqtel policies, standards, practices, and procedures, this position is Male preferred. Strong cultural sensitivity with a deep respect for Ch'iyaqtel culture, traditions, language and protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and support drop-in recreation programs at the community hall. Initiate and lead outdoor and land-based activities utilizing Ch'iyaqtel's traditional territory. Participate as part of a team in planning and delivering community events, activities, and programs. Adapt programming to meet the needs of participants across different age groups. Organize group fitness classes, sports leagues, outdoor adventures, and wellness challenges. Collaborate to plan, develop, and implement schedules for recreation programming. Build positive relationships with community members. Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment in all programs. Work closely with community members to identify their fitness and recreational interests. Coordinate access to community facilities, sports fields and recreational equipment. Ensure all equipment is well maintained, safe, and available for use during programs and activities. Set up and take down equipment as needed for events and activities. Maintain program schedules, attendance records, and basic reporting requirements. Provide input into budget and resource planning for recreation programming. Build relationships with local schools, sports organizations, fitness trainers, and cultural groups. Partner with healthcare providers and wellness coordinators to promote physical activity. Collaborate with organizations to bring new recreational opportunities to the community. Track program participation, collect feedback, and prepare reports. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Grade 12 or equivalent plus a post-secondary certificate or other training/experience related to: Recreation, Physical Education, Community Programming or related fields considered an asset. First Aid and CPR certification. Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check. Valid Class 5 BC Driver's license and abstract with no restrictions. Ability to exercise and model a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including conflict resolution. Strong writing skills including report writing. Intermediate level computer skills including Microsoft Office. Program development - experience in planning and delivering recreation programs, preferably in a community or indigenous setting. Proven track record of working directly with community members across diverse age groups. Partnership development Problem solving and adaptability Organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with Children, youth and adults.
Working Conditions

Flexible work schedule required to meet the needs of the community, with regular afternoon and evening hours (likely 2:00PM-10:00PM) and occasional weekends. Work takes place in various indoor and outdoor settings, including the community hall, Sportsfield and on the land. Physical activity and outdoor work in varied weather conditions are required.

Salary Range: $23.94 - $29.25
