The Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is growing and we are looking for dynamic individuals to join the Recreation team. Reporting to a Recreation Complex Supervisor, the City of Burnaby is looking for three Recreation Centre Supervisor 2s to be part of the Bonsor Recreation Complex, Cameron Recreation Complex and Edmonds Community Centre\xe2\x80\x99s supervisory teams at these multi-generational facilities. These positions directly oversee the dry side recreation programs and services within the facility. The incumbent supervises directly or indirectly through subordinates, the work of a large staff team dedicated to a spectrum of recreational services, programs and events to meet the needs of a diverse community. We are looking for individuals with strong leadership and communication skills who are able to motivate and inspire their teams. A Recreation Centre Supervisor 2 may also be assigned a divisional leadership role for a city-wide specialty recreational service area such as seniors, fitness, children or volunteers. The incumbent provides leadership in their assigned area of work by assessing current and emerging program service area needs and trends, and recommending and implementing coordinated service delivery based on the same; develops, coordinates and implements staff training and acts as a resource to all staff within the facility; develops and maintains effective relationships with staff teams, groups, associations and the public; establishes and implements new and improved work methods and procedures; prepares and monitors budgets including the management of expenditures and revenue; prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports; and assists in the development of customer service standards and operating procedures as required. Within the limits of established objectives and policies, this role exercises considerable autonomy of judgement, initiative and action with overall work performance being reviewed and evaluated in terms of the provision of effective management of the service areas. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include University graduation in Recreation or related discipline plus sound related managerial experience in facility operation with a revenue producing component, preferably experience as a Recreation Centre Supervisor 1, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the operation and management of a multiuse recreational Centre; of the community needs and requirements that are served by the Centre and an understanding on how to assess community needs to ensure customer needs are met. Extensive knowledge of a specialized recreational service area and working knowledge of applicable specialized equipment. Ability to organize, coordinate and manage the operations, programs and services of the Centre under minimal supervision; to hire, train and motivate staff and plan, assign, monitor job performance and supervise the work of such staff; to effectively use conflict resolution skills; to establish and maintain effective working relationship with groups, associations and the public and speak effectively in public; to prepare budgets and direct the accounting and control of revenue and expenditures; to write clear and concise reports and correspondence. A valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
