We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Recreation Assistant to join our team in enhancing the quality of life for residents in assisted living, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in senior care, recreational therapy, or working with individuals with disabilities, including dementia and Alzheimer's care. This role involves planning engaging activities, supporting residents' social and emotional well-being, and assisting with daily living activities. A strong background in communication skills, schedule management, and caregiving is essential to succeed in this rewarding position.
Responsibilities
Develop and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities, including memory care and dementia-specific programs.
Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as mobility, personal hygiene, and other personal care needs.
Coordinate activity schedules to ensure a balanced and engaging program that promotes social interaction and mental stimulation.
Support residents during outings or community events, ensuring safety and enjoyment.
Collaborate with nursing staff, caregivers, and family members to create individualized activity plans that address specific aging issues and promote overall well-being.
Provide companionship and emotional support to residents, fostering a positive environment that encourages participation.
Assist with aging issues counseling by providing empathetic support and facilitating communication between residents and healthcare providers.
Maintain accurate documentation of resident participation in activities and any observations related to their health or behavior changes.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Certified Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) or completion of a Recreation / Therapeutic Recreation program (certificate or diploma) preferred.
Experience working with older adults, dementia care, or therapeutic activities.
Valid driver's license (required for outings).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of recreation, therapeutic activity principles, and person-centered programming.
Ability to adapt programs to accommodate physical and cognitive limitations
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Creativity in planning and facilitating engaging programs.
Basic computer/documentation skills; ability to use electronic health record system.
Demonstrated professionalism, empathy, patience, and respect.
