Job Description

The

Recreation Assistant

plays a key role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by supporting the planning, delivery, and evaluation of engaging recreation, outings and lifestyle programs. This position helps create a vibrant community that supports residents' social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual well-being.

Key Responsibilities



Plan and deliver programs:

Assist in developing and leading individual and group programs that promote resident engagement, independence, and enjoyment.

Facilitate activities:

Lead one-to-one visits, small group sessions, large-scale events, and seasonal celebrations with enthusiasm and creativity.

Resident assessment & documentation:

Complete resident assessments, set goals and interventions, and maintain accurate documentation including attendance, progress notes, care plans, and quarterly reviews.

Program logistics:

Organize and prepare for activities--purchasing supplies, decorating, setting up, assisting residents during programs, and ensuring proper clean-up and safety.

Collaboration:

Partner with interdisciplinary teams and external partners (e.g., pet therapy, music therapy, art programs) to enrich resident experiences and strengthen community connections.

Continuous improvement:

Participate in evaluating program effectiveness and contribute new ideas for enhancing resident engagement and satisfaction.

Other duties:

Perform additional related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the home's recreation and wellness programs.

Qualifications



Diploma or degree in Activation, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or a related field or current enrollment in such a program. Current First Aid and CPR certification (Standard or Emergency level). Food Handlers Certificate and Smart Serve (required). Experience in program planning, documentation, and evaluation in a health care or community setting. Proficiency with Yardi and Microsoft Office (asset). Strong communication, creativity, and teamwork skills.
