Position Purpose summary:
Accountabilities:
Client Services:Responsible to ensure that needs of program participants are met i.e. physically, emotionally, medically, and behaviorally.
Advocate on behalf of the program participants to promote health and well-being.
Plan and facilitate a variety of leisure/recreational activities, which are appropriate to age, skill level and interests; monitor participants in their activities and encourage participation.
Engage participants in individual, small, and large group opportunities, which correspond to the identified program plan.
Prepare and distribute summer program plan detailing daily and/or weekly activities.
Ensure the safety of the participants while involved in leisure/recreational activities both inside and outside of the facility.
Organize and maintain gym equipment; set up and clean-up after all activities.
Liaise with and schedule appropriate entertainment/tours/activities.
Observe participant behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Gather data, maintain statistics, and compile information for reports as required.
Support participants and provide washroom, ambulation, and feeding assistance as required.
Develop and maintain up to date resource files.
Communication/Administration:Ensure proper recording and documentation ie. shift change book, incident reports, etc.
Report any identified needs to team members, Respite Program Supervisor and/or on-call designate and parent/usual caregiver.
Property:Report any property damage, mechanical breakdown of equipment and/or repairs needed in the program.
Perform other position related duties as required.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:This position reports directly to the Respite Program Supervisor or designate.
Uphold all Salvation Army policies, directives, and operating guidelines as contained in the Policy Manual of The Salvation Army London Village.
Work within the legal standards of the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 and Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008).
Participate in participant specific and/or program specific training as required.
Attend/participate in staff meetings as required.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:Not applicable.
Working Conditions:This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
Frequent lifting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.
Walking and standing for long periods.
Some kneeling, running may be required.
Normal hours of work: shifts will include days and occasional weekends.

This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment

education and experience Qualifications:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:Currently pursuing an education in post-secondary studies (Social Services, Human Services or Developmental Service Worker, Therapeutic Recreation/Recreation & Leisure Studies).
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:A minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in a social service setting and some experience in providing direct care to children, youth or adults who have intellectual disabilities; dealing with crises is required.
Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification.
Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
Skills and Capabilities:Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.

Participate in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development and training.

Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products is required - i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint; Email and Internet etc.
Fluent French verbal and written communication skills are an asset.
Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License is preferred, current original copy of driver's abstract, which is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is also preferred.
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured
either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachmentMay require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
