RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group resident centered recreation programs based on assessed needs incorporating Montessori methods.
Set up and clean activity area as necessary and transport residents to and from programs.
Monitor the behaviour and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes.
Maintain program and resident records according to department policy.
Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
Liaise with resident families.
Participate in care planning and program reviews that meet identified Care Plan goals
Adhere to established department policies and procedures regarding quality improvement, fire, safety, and infection control.
QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or social services from a community college or university
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills
Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one, group, special event program planning, implementation and evaluation
Compassionate and patient demeanor when working with senior residents
Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with other staff members.
Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population including those with cognitive impairments and responsive behaviours.
