Established in 1970, Aventa Centre of Excellence for Women with Addictions

is a leader in trauma-informed, gender specific, addictions treatment for women. Through a multi-disciplinary team approach, Aventa delivers a trauma-informed curriculum researched and written by Dr. Stephanie Covington. Aventa's operating funding is provided through provincial and federal Governments; Aventa has been partnered with the Alberta government since 1971. Aventa is accredited with Exemplary Standing through Accreditation Canada.

Key Responsibilities



Client Support:

Provide comprehensive recovery support services to Clients on a 24/7 basis, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.

Programming Facilitation:

Lead and support engaging evening and weekend programming, including groups, recreational activities, and mutual-aid meetings.

Safety and Monitoring:

Maintain a trauma-informed environment by supervising Client activities, conducting necessary searches, ensuring compliance with facility protocols and completion of daily housekeeping shift duties.

Crisis Intervention:

Employ effective crisis intervention techniques, facilitating referrals and providing ongoing support.

Documentation:

Ensure documentation of Client progress, critical incident reports, discharge summaries and adherence to accreditation standards, safeguarding Client confidentiality.

Team Collaboration:

Foster a positive team environment through open communication and active participation in team meetings and collaborative care approaches.

As a Recovery Support Counsellor with Aventa, a typical day may include:



To provide recovery support services to the Clients of Aventa on a 24-hour, seven-(7) day a week basis.

The position is six days on and three days off : 11:30pm - 8:00am rotation.*
All shifts are required to complete administrative, housekeeping (shift duties) and clinical responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of the shift and the facility. Maintaining a safe, welcoming and trauma informed environment through:
o Monitor and supervise the activities and behaviours of Clients and respond in supportive, meaningful ways

o participate in the admission or discharge process for Clients

o searching Clients' belongings as they arrive/leave the program (admissions, discharge and outings)

o conducting room searches

o supporting Client schedule/routines and accounting for all Clients at strategic times such as curfew, bed check hours, during or after fire drills, and meal hours

o conduct drug and alcohol screens and collaborating documentation

o observe Clients self-administer their own medications

o supporting meal service including serving meals and observing Client chore completion

o ensuring Client bedrooms are clean and welcoming for new admissions including making beds, doing laundry and light housework

o Facilitate or support evening and weekend programming including groups, recreation activities, walks, and meetings

Ensure proper documentation and management of Client files. This includes observing, recording and reporting on Client progress and challenges, documenting and distributing critical incidents according to policy, completing various forms and documents required for accountability and accreditation purposes, writing case notes, ensuring proper release of information records are in place, and protecting the confidentiality of Client records. Contributes actively to a positive and supportive team environment through:
o Communicate regularly with Aventa Staff by phone, e-mail, the Communication Book and participation in shift change

o Participates in ongoing learning and supervision including attending onsite training, supervision (formal and informal) and team meetings

The Ideal Candidate



Qualifications:



Diploma or degree in a relevant human services field; current registration with a professional college is preferred. Proven experience working within trauma-informed care, addictions, and mental health settings. Commitment to the following Six days on and three days off schedule: 11:30pm - 8:00 am

Skills:



Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to thrive both independently and as part of a cohesive team. Strong organizational capabilities and proficiency in computer applications. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Experience using a Client Management Database preferred.

Requirements:



Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check (dated within the last 6 months). Current certification in Suicide Intervention and First Aid/CPR prior to hire.
