Location: Small Point-Adam's Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove, NL
Employment Type: Full-time, 12-months (with possibility of extension)
Position Overview
The Recovery Coordinator will lead and support wildfire recovery efforts for the Town of Small Point-Adam's Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove. This role is responsible for coordinating recovery initiatives across the focus areas of social & community wellbeing, housing & community infrastructure, safety & security, and environment & resilience. The Coordinator will ensure that recovery activities are community-driven, coordinated across working groups, and that progress is tracked and reported effectively.
Reporting to the Recovery Committee, the Coordinator will act as the central point of contact for residents, partners, and agencies, ensuring recovery is transparent, accountable, and effective.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Coordination & Support
Support working groups in carrying out recovery initiatives and logistical planning.
Facilitate coordination and communication between working groups to ensure alignment with community priorities.
Coordinate closely with other administrative roles within the operations team to support implementation of recovery initiatives.
Help integrate activities across the four focus areas to maximize impact and efficiency.
Serve as a key liaison between the Recovery Committee, community organizations, and partner agencies.
Planning, Tracking & Reporting
Support the development of recovery plans and progress reports across all focus areas.
Lead tracking and reporting on progress against recovery plans, indicators, outcomes, and budgets.
Support the design and implementation of community-level assessments to identify needs, gaps, and opportunities for recovery.
Monitor progress, identify gaps or risks, and develop solutions or recommendations for the Recovery Committee.
Integrate risk reduction, resilience, and sustainability principles into recovery activities.
Strengthen local leadership capacity to sustain long-term recovery outcomes.
Communications & Community Engagement
Lead communications to the community, including newsletters, town halls, email updates, and social media.
Provide timely, accurate, and trauma-informed messaging to ensure transparency and trust.
Support rumor management and address community questions and concerns related to recovery.
Resource & Financial Accountability
Track and report on recovery-related financials, including grants, disaster assistance, and allocated budgets.
Ensure financial accountability and alignment of external funding with community-identified priorities.
Support identification and pursuit of new funding opportunities and partnerships to expand recovery capacity.
Administration & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of recovery activities and initiatives.
Support milestone events, recognition initiatives, and evaluation of recovery progress.
Prepare reports and provide recommendations to the Recovery Steering Committee and Council.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience in planning, community development, disaster/emergency management, or a related field.
Strong facilitation, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication, including public engagement and report writing.
Experience in project management, tracking progress, and reporting.
Knowledge of rural and small-community contexts is an asset.
Understanding of resilience, sustainability, and risk reduction principles.
Ability to identify community needs, develop solutions, and support implementation.
Indicators of Success
Recovery plans and initiatives are effectively tracked and progress is documented.
Community members are informed, engaged, and feel their concerns are being addressed.
Measurable progress is achieved across social, housing, safety, and environmental recovery activities.
Budgets and financial reporting are transparent and accountable.
Additional funding and resources are secured to support recovery and resilience initiatives.
Local leadership and capacity are strengthened, leaving a sustainable foundation beyond the Coordinator's tenure.
Compensation
$42000 - $54000 based on qualifications
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $42,000.00-$52,000.00 per year
