Job Description

Clarkson Co-operative Nursery School (CCNS) is a family and community-centred early learning environment located in the Clarkson/Lorne Park neighbourhoods in Mississauga. Founded at Christ First United Church in 1964, we have been providing enriched learning opportunities for the children of the community for 59 years. We are seeking an individual who is interested in building a long-term relationship with our school and community.

CCNS offers programs five days per week for children aged 2 years and 5months to 6 years of age from September to June. Our Preschool program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. And the Kindergarten program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

As a part of our nursery school, the Supervisor will work with the children along with additional Program Staff. As a co-op, CCNS relies on parent participation and is looking for a potential candidate that would initiate and build strong relationships with participating families and with our parent-run Board of Directors. Our model of early childhood education utilizes a child-centred, emergent curriculum with an emphasis on creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and conflict resolution in a play-based and inclusive learning environment.

Summary of the Position

The Program Supervisor must have a high degree of emotional and physical stamina, a high level of empathy, maturity, patience and should have the capacity to form meaningful relationships with staff, board members, children and their families based on genuine interest in helping them. As well, the Program Supervisor must possess strong administrative and organizational skills. The Program Supervisor will work to create cohesion between the preschool and kindergarten programs. Also, to ensure the management of procedures required to carry out the policy decisions of the Executive Board for the fulfilment of the goals and objectives of the school.

The Program Supervisor will work closely with the Executive Board for the fulfillment of the goals and objectives, management, and carrying out of procedures and policies of the school in line with our governing bodies (Ministry of Education and Region of Peel), as well as work together with the teachers on programing and be available in a teaching capacity in the classroom part-time with other staff at CCNS.

Permanent Position:

32+ hours per week plus occasional non-program evening hours from September through June

As soon as possible

Compensation: $19-25/hour

+ $2-5/hour in supplementary wage enhancement grants when made available by the Region of Peel

Administrative Responsibilities

Ensures that the preschool and kindergarten programmes comply with all legal and licensing requirements at all times Manages and maintains up to date records pertaining to: Public health regulations Ontario Ministry of Education Region of Peel All licensing requirements Fulfills requirements of participation with the Region of Peel, Raising the Bar, CWELCC, and Fee Subsidy Programs Oversees the daily operation of the facility, program plan, staff supervision and ongoing care of the children Completes accurate log of timesheets and staff expenses, working with the treasurer and bookkeeper to maintain records Ensures that operational policies established by the Executive Board are implemented In partnership with the parent-run Executive Board: Provides support to the Treasurer with the organization of grant funding Provides support to the Registrar Provides support to the President with negotiations for annual rental agreements Provides support to the President in communications with Region of Peel and Ministry of Education as needed Attend meetings and provide feedback to the Executive Board on an ongoing basis Supports Teachers with the following: Ensures that the curriculum for the children and families meets policies established by the Executive Board Collaborates with staff on special events Maintains student/child information files, as well as staff and volunteer files Liaises with parents on an ongoing basis Maintain school information bulletin boards for parents and staff Field phone messages Ordering of program supplies Ancillary Support (i.e. photocopying, printing, booking field trips, health screening etc.) Ensures on-going supervision of the preschool, kindergarten and the extended hours program and implementation of personnel policies Participates in meetings including but not limited to: Overseeing staff meetings Attends RTBP meetings and PL Sessions Attends board meetings Arranges supply staff
Teaching Responsibilities

Provides opportunity for child directed play and learning experiences Sets reasonable behaviour expectations consistent with best practices, current teaching, and CCNS philosophy and policies Encourages and assists children to practice self-help and independence skills Supports children's choice to engage in independent play and learning in order to promote and encourage self-regulation and emotional well-being Records all accidents, injuries and illnesses according to CCNS and License requirements Attends meetings and functions as required
Qualifications

Registered Early Childhood Educator (R.E.C.E.) in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators Minimum of five years' experience in an early childhood setting with some supervisory experience Excellent English language communication skills, both verbal and written Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check Current Health Certificate & Immunization Record (including full COVID 19 vaccination) CPR certification (WSIB approved) Working knowledge of the Child Care Early Years Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Health Act and the Child and Family Services Act and the ability to meet the specifications of these acts and any other regulations which apply to this field Experience in a parent participation (co-op) child care setting is considered an asset

Ability to lead, adapt to, and support changing team dynamic Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with children, parents and staff Ability to use and maintain files using Google drive, use/maintain files with the Ministry of Education and Region of Peel using their technology platforms (CCLS and OCCMS) Ability to learn and fulfil the CCNS policies and procedures in the Handbooks
