The Position



The pedagogical leader works collaboratively with early childhood educators, within the classroom environment, to support practices that enable them to be thoughtful and intentional about their work with children. The pedagogical leader works alongside early childhood educators to ensure a play-based curriculum for young children that focusses on; building and nurturing relationships, creating a physical environment that inspires learning, planning experiences based on the observed and expressed interests of the children, and reflecting and documenting the learning experience. The pedagogical leader will assist the program manager in creating resources and facilitating professional learning opportunities for educators working with children 0-5 years old.

Responsibilities:

Conduct regular and ongoing centre-visits with the objective to; build rapport with educator teams, role model interactions with children, and create physical environments that inspire learning. Support and mentor educators in creating and implementing a program plan that is reflective of the developmental needs and interests of the children. Review and provide feedback on the program plans. Engage educator teams in professional dialogue related to extending the children's interests and scaffolding learning. Provide ongoing feedback and recommendations. Support educators in their own reflection on what children learned through their experiences, and help them align with the How Does Learning Happen? framework Review educator's learning stories to ensure alignment with How Does Learning Happen? and provide feedback on how to improve/enhance them. Ensure programs align with DROC and comply with the CCEYA. Ensure ongoing engagement and communication with centre supervisor. Celebrate success, assess quality, identify gaps, and create action plans as required. Participate as a member of the "resource rooms committee" and work collaboratively to ensure developmentally appropriate and relevant materials are well-stocked and readily available. Create and/or seek out pedagogical resources (i.e. articles/newsletters) for educators and supervisors to encourage reflection and support them in the delivery of a high-quality play-based curriculum. Assist program managers in creating and facilitating pedagogical training and networking for educators and supervisors. Work alongside the program manager team to develop assessment tools to measure outcomes. Create a safe environment that encourages open communication and feedback. Respect and encourage varied perspectives and diversity of thought.

The Ideal Candidate - Qualifications, Education and Experience



Early Childhood Education Degree or Diploma, and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators Minimum of 3 years of experience as an educator within a licensed childcare environment, with specific experience in an infant, toddler, preschool or kindergarten classroom Solid understanding of child development, and demonstrated ability to facilitate early learning experiences reflective of current research and best practices Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of How Does Learning Happen? DROC (Durham Region Operating Criteria) and the CCEYA (Child Care and Early Years Act) Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work culture through reliable and trustworthy, professional behaviour. Role models the values of the organization consistently Effective organization and time management skills Must be able to travel to multiple childcare locations on a regular basis
