Capital Power is a dynamic and rapidly growing energy trading firm committed to maximizing power market opportunities across North America. With a strong foundation in advanced analytics, deep market insight, and a collaborative team culture, we consistently deliver outstanding results in both real-time and day-ahead markets.
We are currently seeking a Real-Time Trading Manager to lead our trading desk operations across key North American markets, including PJM, MISO, IESO, SPP, ERCOT, and NYISO. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving real-time trading performance, managing risk, and mentoring a high-performing team of traders and analysts.
Y ou will contribute to our team by :
Leading and managing the real-time power trading desk, ensuring optimal performance across PJM, MISO, IESO, SPP, ERCOT and NYISO markets.
Developing and executing real-time trading strategies to maximize profitability while managing operational and market risks.
Overseeing scheduling, dispatching, and market submissions in compliance with ISO/RTO rules and timelines.
Collaborating with analytics, forecasting, and risk teams to enhance decision-making tools and market models.
Monitoring market conditions, regulatory changes, and system constraints to identify trading opportunities and threats.
Recruiting, training, and mentoring junior traders and analysts to build a strong bench of talent.
Ensuring compliance with internal risk policies and external regulatory requirements.
What you will bring to the role :
Education :
Degree(s) in Engineering, Physics, Math, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in real-time power trading, with deep knowledge of PJM, MISO, IESO, SPP, ERCOT and NYISO markets.
Proven leadership experience managing trading teams or desks.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of ISO/RTO market rules, LMP pricing, congestion management, and asset optimization.
Excellent analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
Proficiency in trading platforms, market dashboards, and data analytics tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Excel).
Familiarity with physical and virtual trading strategies.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
