The Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.What you will be doing:All the required Experience and Role Accountabilities shall relate to the operation of Overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kV.Provide timely Distribution-related Engineering support to System Control Centre Managers, Control Room Operators and Outage Schedulers.Collaborate with the Day Shift Manager, Load Operators, and other support groups to sustain and or enhance tools/processes used by the Control Room, including EMS screens, POCC, field SCADA device operations, PA process, and customer operations.Analyze and perform load flows for various distribution system issues as they arise.Propose possible operational and contingency solutions to support day to day operations and outage scheduling.Support Load Operator Seminars by providing distribution system related information and training.Create, manage and maintain Distribution Operating Orders.Collaborate with Distribution Planning and Distribution Engineering to provide operations input and to operationalize System Improvement projects.Constantly upgrade technical knowledge to keep up with most recent advancements in the relevant engineering field. This includes but is not limited to Energy/Distribution Management System (EMS/DMS) application related knowledge, i.e. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Network applications for real-time power system control, Distribution Analysis and Design (DAD), and Operator interface screens.Establish strong relationship with control room personnel and understand Power System Safety Procedures (PSSP).Assist in providing overall distribution expertise to Grid OperationsInvolved in Staging Plan discussion as relates to energizing plan, operating order updates and interim operational considerations.Assess Energization requirements and prepare Energizing Plans/checklists.Interpret, Support and guide Projects on operational process both for BC Hydro projects as well as customer projects / Independent Power Producers (IPP)).Develop new Operating Orders or update existing operating orders. Review and recommend approval for posting on recommended changes to operating order by others.Respond to operating questions from Field, Control room, Outage Schedulers, Outage planners, customers on Operating Orders including P&C related.Support in the development of operating procedures.Provide operations engineering support for Real Time Operations staff on Energizing Plan and Operating Orders.Provide support for Operator Training as required.Investigate system disturbance and prepare report. Contribute to the preparation of Disturbance Analysis Reports and presentation of the resultsProvide support to sustain or enhance tools/processes.Interface and liaise with external entities to resolve operating concerns.Contribute to reporting and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.Interact and engage relevant Project teams internal and external in confirming all necessary steps are addressed prior to the energization of a project or an equipmentDefine the requirements, scope of the work for implementation and on time support for projects and programs delivery.What you must have:Degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by universities in CanadaDemonstrated experience and technical knowledge in both Overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kVBroad range of distribution related skills including planning, system engineering, protection engineering, design, and project managementAbility to perform effectively in high pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmnessUnderstanding of basic real-time power system operations principlesUnderstanding of power system model and power flow applicationsMaintain good standing in Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) throughout the term of the contract.Maintain Drivers License Class 5 throughout the term of the contractRegistered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BCThe company uses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology.
