Reporting to the Technical Superintendent Reliability Engineering, the Reactive Engineer is accountable for improving and sustaining the maintenance and reliability of Trail Operations operating plants by investigating reliability problems, developing, and implementing maintenance strategies, and providing technical support.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Initiate a Reliability Incident Report (RIR), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), or Bad Actor Situation Appraisal (SA) as required and makes recommendations on how to eliminate or reduce risks
  • Use a combination of preventative maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) for development of asset maintenance strategies
  • Create, revise or improve scope and content of maintenance strategy documentation
  • Manages backlog of PM update requests and delegate minor PM revisions
  • Provide verbal and written reports to keep management and work teams informed
  • Define and tracks work quality requirements using Trail Operations' quality management process.
  • Manage design changes to equipment stemming from approved actions identified through failure investigations or assessments of chronic equipment
  • Conduct equipment condition assessments and create corrective actions for repair
  • Execute the equipment Management of Change (MOC) process for modifications to equipment design and conduct hazard risk assessments (HRAs) or process hazards assessments (PHAs) as part of the MOC Process.
  • Build commissioning plan as part of emergency repair scoping
  • Support the procurement process for non-standard or specialty parts
  • Provide guidance to new employees, co-op students, EITs, and plant personnel
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 4+ years of work experience in mining, smelting, refining, or similar heavy industrial facilities.
  • Eligible for, or working towards, registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Strong communication skills and effective interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of reliability principles, methodologies and technology
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office (Advanced Excel)
  • Supervisory and mentoring experience an asset.
  • Experience with predictive maintenance and CMMS systems technologies an asset
