The activities of C\xc3\xa9r\xc3\xa9lia North America are split over 3 different locations:

• Toronto, Ontario (CA): 2 factories and 1 distribution Center (cookies)
• Columbus, Ohio (USA): 1 factory (cookies & rolled dough)
• Liberty, South Carolina (USA): 1 factory (pancakes & waffles)

C\xc3\xa9r\xc3\xa9lia continues to strengthen the relationship with its strategic customers across multiple distribution channels: food service, in-store bakeries, retailers, clubs, convenience stores, and industrial partners.

Summary:

As a member of the R&D team, the R&D Technologist will in our Innovation Centre, utilizing knowledge of food ingredients, food science and consumer marketing insights to assist in the development of cookie products which meet customer and business unit product strategies. This role supports the development process from benchtop prototyping through to full commercialization.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

• Work in conjunction with the R&D Manager to support the development of new and reformulated products.
• Support reformulation projects for product improvement, ingredient substitutions, cost-reduction or plant simplification.
• Assist with benchtop prototype creation including scaling ingredients, mixing dough, and forming samples.
• Attend plant trials & first production runs, providing support with auditing processes, collecting data & analyzing products.
• Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and rigor in the execution of R&D initiatives.
• Set up and participate in sensory evaluation of cookie products.
• Conduct shelf life, product performance, and quality attribute testing of products.
• Develop cooking instructions for products.
• Collaborate with procurement and other R&D team members to source new ingredients during the product development process.
• Work closely with other departments including regulatory, QA, operations, and maintenance to achieve cross-functional objectives.
• Prepare documentation as required to support development process.
• Coordinate sample shipments to customers.
• Initiate R&D raw material requests & collect ingredients from the plants.
• Maintain R&D lab cleanliness and organization.

Entrance Qualifications

• BSc in Food Science or related discipline required
• 1-3 years of experience in R&D in the food industry
• Manufacturing experience with bakery products preferred but not required
• Excellent attention to detail, creativity & problem-solving skills
• Proficient in MS Office. Working knowledge of Genesis software an asset.
